“Much of my sculpture juxtaposes raw texture against highly polished (sometimes anatomical) surfaces. The through-line in my work is the tension between that which is hidden and that which is revealed. For instance, in “Look Back” the repeated motif of a partially hidden woman’s face peers out of a craggy, jagged column. This piece is a tribute to the women who were left to bear the burden of their tragic history, the genocide of one and a half million Armenians at the hands of the Turkish government at the beginning of the 20th century. Looking in all directions, this face which is partially hidden and partially revealed, stands in silent witness and testimony of this not yet fully reconciled history. Each of my pieces, whether it incorporates naturalistic elements or is purely abstract, employs images of truths or mysteries not fully unearthed.”
