Harutune Hovhanesian b. 1922
Born in the village of Mets Shakhriareh (Nalbandian), Harutune attended secondary school there. His father was exiled in the 1930s, never to return home. Hovhanesian taught for 25 years at the Yerevan Teachers’ Training Institute, and states: “A bad teacher represents the truth; a good one teaches how to find it.” His works have been exhibited in numerous countries including Sri Lanka, Sweden, Denmark, France, Holland, Czecho-Slovakia, Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania, and Portugal.
Three of Hovhanesian’s etchings shown in Gallery Z’s Armenian Artists exhibit are featured in a booklet on Hovhanesian’s work, published in Moscow.
