Ashot Melkonian

(1930-2009)
Born in Rostov-on-Don, Russia Melkonian mainly devoted himself to landscape and portraits painting, as well as murals. In 1945, he graduated from the Art Studio in Leninakan. In 1950, he graduated from Terlemezian Art School in Yerevan and in 1956 from the Yerevan Fine Art and Drama Institute. From 1972, he taught at Yerevan’s Khatchador Abovian Pedagogical Institute. In 1977, he earned the honorable title of Distinguished Artist of Armenian Republic. He has been a participant in numerous exhibitions, including in Italy, France, the United States, Portugal, etc. Paintings by Ashot Melkonian are exhibited in the Yerevan National Gallery, the Moscow Tretiakov Gallery, and the Fine Arts Gallery of Works by Eastern Peoples in Moscow, as well as in many private collections.
